Reflection paper six
Today we were taught about Deductive Teaching Strategy. I learned that deductive teaching strategy is the strategy in which principle or generalization are presented initially followed by application or testing of these principles. It is basically leading the students from unknown to known, abstract to concrete or complex to simple.
Purpose of deductive teaching strategy.
  • It is a teacher centered approach where students are taken as blank slates.
  •  This strategy creates dependency in students limiting their thinking ability.
  • This strategy is basically used to help students with learning disability to enhance their learning.
Phases of deductive teaching strategy.
  1. Presentation of abstraction.
  2. The teacher illustrates it with examples.
  3. Students give examples of concepts and apply them in new situations.
  4. Student restate the concept or definition that they have learned.
Advantages of deductive teaching strategy.
  1. It is less time consuming.
  2. It is different from rote learning as it is a strategy where logical interlinking of the elements is encouraged.
  3. Most of the school materials/ curriculum can be easily taught through deductive strategy.
  4. This method involves all levels of questions.
Disadvantages of deductive teaching strategy.
  1. Students are not actively involved in the beginning of the lesson.
  2. Since it is a teacher centered approach, it may not be challenging for the brighter students.
Role of Teacher.
  • Teacher needs to plan and prepare detail information and material.
  • Since it is teacher centered approach most of the work is done by the teacher.
  • Provides guidance and scaffolding.

Reflection paper 5
Today we revisited on inductive teaching that is we discussed in pairs about what we understood in our previous class and sir asked our understanding about inductive teaching where some of our friends answered. From their understanding i also got extra information about how learners are taken from known to unknown that is for example telling students the examples of noun and relating to that asking the definition and making a proper defination of noun. After discussing that in the group we were asked to plan a lesson to be taught inductively so, we planed in our group an also went through other group's plan. From there i learnt how should we plan to teach inductively that is like the above example if we are to teach on the topic noun we should first give some examples and let students observe and describe the examples then for better understanding give more examples and non examples and again let students compare the example and non example and find the similarities and differences. After that prompt students to identify patterns in the examples. From there ask their definition of noun and then adding more information and making a definite definition of noun.

Reflection paper 3
We studied about inductive teaching strategy and under that in groups we researched on the following topics:
Concept of inductive teaching/learning strategy.
Purpose of inductive teaching learning strategy.
Procedural steps of inductive teaching/ learning strategy.
Role of teachers.
Merits and demerits of the strategy.
After doing the research we discussed in the expert group and presented to our home group and clarified our doubts. On the process of doing that what i learned was the concept of what inductive teaching/ learning strategy really means. I understood that inductive teaching is a kind of discovery or inquiry teaching where by learners are taken from known to unknown.
For example: teacher gives the topic on strategy and letting the students to explore and find its information and share in the class.
  • It is a modern way of teaching and learning system.
  • Teacher's role is less and students are to discover themselves.
Two types of inductive strategy:
1. Guided
  • The teacher will provide specific information on the topic and give certain hints and let the student to think out of box and draw the conclution.
Eg: teacher giving the hint of essay and letting students to find the types of essay on their own.
2. Un-guided
  • The teacher will just be a guide for encouragement in the learning, learning (observation, formulation of hypothesis, experimentation) has to be done by students themselves.
Eg: sending students on field trip and sharing what they have observed and done.

What are some of the characteristics of an effective teacher?
  • An effective teacher should have high expectations for their entire class.
  • An effective teacher should treat every student as same and should give positive reinforcement in class to motivate the students.
  • An effective teachers should always exhibit enthusiasm in the classroom to keep the students active.
  • An effective teachers should speak in expressive ways, not a monotone style.
  • An effective teacher need to have proper classroom management which is not about disciplining the class, but deals with how to effectively manage the classroom.
  • An effective teacher should show tolerance to differing points of view during class.

Differences between Teaching Strategy, Teaching Method and teaching Skill..
Teaching strategy is developing a course plan with ideas for how to give students the practice that will make it possible for them to achieve the course goals. whereas teaching method is an orderly procedure or process or regular manner of teaching, and teaching skill is educating or instructing using technique or procedure to impart knowledge or skill.

Second Reflection
In our second class we were asked to find the meanings of five words and we discussed in the class so, it was very helpful for us to know the meanings of those words from the beginning itself because after knowing that i knew what we were going to learn in that module and will be able to understand better when we study further.

First Reflection
Our first class was started with meditating for few minutes and knew about our feelings during the meditation. I knew how important was to do meditation to keep our mind in peace.
