EDN 205 (14/3/2012)

Reflection paper 3
We studied about inductive teaching strategy and under that in groups we researched on the following topics:
Concept of inductive teaching/learning strategy.
Purpose of inductive teaching learning strategy.
Procedural steps of inductive teaching/ learning strategy.
Role of teachers.
Merits and demerits of the strategy.
After doing the research we discussed in the expert group and presented to our home group and clarified our doubts. On the process of doing that what i learned was the concept of what inductive teaching/ learning strategy really means. I understood that inductive teaching is a kind of discovery or inquiry teaching where by learners are taken from known to unknown.
For example: teacher gives the topic on strategy and letting the students to explore and find its information and share in the class.
  • It is a modern way of teaching and learning system.
  • Teacher's role is less and students are to discover themselves.
Two types of inductive strategy:
1. Guided
  • The teacher will provide specific information on the topic and give certain hints and let the student to think out of box and draw the conclution.
Eg: teacher giving the hint of essay and letting students to find the types of essay on their own.
2. Un-guided
  • The teacher will just be a guide for encouragement in the learning, learning (observation, formulation of hypothesis, experimentation) has to be done by students themselves.
Eg: sending students on field trip and sharing what they have observed and done.
